Some small confusion with the random function
« on: December 21, 2009, 03:50:51 PM »
I could swear that when I first installed Rockbox and tried the random function it worked like this:

1. I go to file and play a directory. It plays song number 1/31 and when I press next it played for example 9/31 and so on.

2. It then stopped doing this (I messed around a lot with settings etc.), and instead just played song number 1/31 and then 2/31 and so on.

I then thought something was wrong with the function and tried reinstalling and a lot of other things. After some reading I see that the playlist is randomized when first playing the directory so it is in fact random, just not like the conventional way (1). To conclude I was just wondering if I was hallucinating when I saw it working like in (1)?

Oh, my mistake. But do you have an explanation for my question? Maybe I just saw wrong?

I think you may have been hallucinating.   ;)

The shuffle mode in Rockbox will shuffle the music files in your directory (or playlist, etc.) and create an on-the-go playlist of shuffled tunes.  It then plays the shuffled playlist "in order" from 1/31 to 2/31, to 3/31....with the tracks and total being from the playlist.

You may have randomized a folder of songs, then turned Shuffle off.  That way, if it played track 9 first in its randomized playlist, it would display 1/31, but when you turn off Shuffle mode as it plays track 9, it would modify the information to display 9/31 and keep going in order from there (10/31, 11/31....).

You also may have experienced a momentary bug in your build, but that's the way it's worked for me the past four years.
