Sansa e200 e260 v2 hangs after bootloader installed
« on: December 19, 2009, 01:21:17 PM »
I'm new to rockbox and have spent several hours on this forum and going over the manual.  My wife has a Sansa e280 v1 I first installed rockbox on and it worked perfectly.  So I ventured to install it on my Sansa e260 v2 AMS.  I used the rockbox utility and installed the bootloader with no problems.  Then without disconnected and rebooting I attempted to install the rockbox app on my player.  It would hang at 21% and say there wasn't enough disk space.  My player was close to empty but I went ahead and deleted all of my music, video and pics from the player.  I attempted to install the rockbox app again and it kept giving me the error there wasn't enough disk space.  I read up on how to do it manually and essentially you just copy over the .rockbox folder to the root of the player.  So I attempted to do so and it would hang part way through the file transfer.  No error it just stops copying.  I then disconnected the player from the computer and then reconnect it and tried again.  Once again it would hang and stop copying but it hung on a different file.  I tried to copy music and it did the same thing it would just hang part way through the transfer.  I then copied each subfolder one at time of the .rockbox folder and sometimes file by file.  Every time the player hung I disconnected and then reconnected it to my computer.  Eventually after an hour or so I got all the files copied over.  The player boots to rockbox just fine and works great.  But now I can't copy or sync my player without hanging my player up in neither USB mode (MTP or MSC).  I've found others on the forum who have had similar problems but no solutions posted.  I'm sure it is posted somewhere I just can't find it.  What do I need to do to get my player to stop hanging.

Sounds like a corrupted files system on your player if you get errors transferring files in Windows.

I thought the same thing.  I forgot to mention that I reformatted the drive in MTP mode with windows.  It did nothing to solve the problem.  As others have noticed on this forum when I connect in MSC mode it has a different file structure and the formatting the drive in MTP did nothing to the folders seen in MSC mode.  I don't quite understand how that works.  I guess I will look around for an explanation on how to do a low level format on a Sansa e200 v2.

Update
I formatted the drive again in MTP and MSC mode with no improvement.  I even removed rockbox completely and it still hangs.  I guess it might be my player that has gone bad but is it sure is a strange coincidence that my player goes bad the moment I installed rockbox on it.  I'm still baffled as to what is causing the player the hang.
