Podcast/Audio book mode?
« on: December 14, 2009, 09:23:51 PM »
I have my music on my mp3player as well as audio books and podcasts;

rockbox needs an feature were you can listen to files with alternative settings, so we don't have crossfading chapters and super high bass in podcasts.
Also remembering  were we left of in audio file would be nice;

Basically an opinion in the main menu to listen to audio files (books/podcasts)
with different settings and bookmarks.

any chance of this in the future???

Bookmarks already exist, and it's easy to load an alternate .cfg file quickly to change all kinds of settings before you listen to something else. Rockbox can't magically "know" which settings to load for which files, but you can quickly click a different .cfg file.

You might be interested in this previous discussion:

and this feature idea:

At the moment you can just load the appropriate .cfg file to 'change modes', like Llorean said.  If someone finds a way to implement the '.cfg in playlists' idea (or something similar) properly/safely then this should be possible.

Following those threads, the strategy that seems to suggest itself is:

a) Before you playback a track, if the directory where the track is located has changed since the last track, look for a config file

b) If a config file exists, apply it (themes, EQ settings, timeouts, whatever)

c) If a config file doesn't exist, recursively ascend through the parent hierarchy in the file system, looking for a config file. If a config file is encountered, apply it.

Is that about right?

I was pondering the same thing early, but c) seems very expensive to me.

a) and b) might be workable though.

Yes, I wondered about that, but remember that (c) would only happen when the directory containing the current track changes. So that would typically exclude people playing whole albums, podcasts series and audiobooks. And I'd guess, if it's switchable, they are the people who would have that sort of behaviour turned on.
