Gigabeat X30 dead, please help fix, thanks a lot
« on: December 14, 2009, 11:01:09 AM »
Hi mate, i got a gigabeat X30 and i duno which steps i messed up with as now it cannot boot at all!
Here is the steps i've done.
1: I downloaded the "releases" rockbox and extracted it.
2: I selected the device. (my gigabeat is connected to the laptop)
3: I went to "installation" tab and clicked "install the bootloader"
4: I followed the instruction "safely remove my gigabeat, power OFF, toggle battery switch, power ON again".
5: The next is my gigabeat dead.

When I press the power botton it will show the gigabeat booting menu as usual for few seconds before it turn into black screen, saying "rockbox bootloader, version 3.0, loading firmware, file not found".
My laptop cannot detect the hard drive as well when i pluged in the USB. It's with a black screen and shows "Bootloader USB mode".

What should I do next? thanks.

There's a recovery procedure posted in the wiki: http://www.rockbox.org/wiki/GigabeatFXPort#Gigabeat_Recovery_Procedures

Apparently, the bootloader has been installed but it can't find the Rockbox binary.  You should ensure that /.rockbox/rockbox.gigabeat exists on your player.

PS: I'm moving this because it doesn't appear to have anything to do with Rockbox Utility.

Gigabeat X hard reset, boot loader recovery.

Turn off the battery power.

Press and hold "A", "+ Volume", "Power" keys at the same time, and then insert AC power lead, turn on power.

It will now behave as a usb device.

Restore/reinstall your files etc.

PS Make sure to press the keys properly!
PPS I hate bricks!
PPS I hope it is oker to post this "fix" twice in the forums.
