okay so i format the movies to the correct mpeg-2 and size of ipod. When i play the movie, i get lag or it skips frames too much, i've already messed with the skip frames and limit FPS option, still nothing plays it smoothly without it being super slow or super fast. Please help

The ipod video doesn't play videos very well in Rockbox. The combination of slow processor and big screen isn't a good one.
Sad as it is to say it, you are better off playing videos in the OF for the ipod Video (other models are fine in Rockbox).

29.00 around that area i believe. Yeah Alex, that is the same thing i thought right off the bat. Maybe try formatting the video in some other format? or preferences

I assume you mean that you encoded the file as 29.00 FPS. The PluginMpegplayer page claims that the FPS on a 5g iPod should be between 14 and 19 frames per second, which would explain why you're seeing frame dropping. As AlexP suggested, your player simply can't manage standard frame rates for full screen resolutions.
Rockbox only has support for MPEG, so encoding to a different format won't help you as far as Rockbox's video performance goes. You will find better results by encoding to a format supported by Apple's firmware and using that to play your videos.

Oh alright then, thanks for clearing that up. I will re-format to that lower frame rate and check results. Oh by the way, what is a good video converter, the one i use sucks as it lacks options and stuff, thanks.

Winff (as suggested on the wiki page) is pretty good.

Thanks for the tip about Winff.
I've encoded the entire movie of Sita Sings the Blues (free via creative commons by-sa license), it's downloadable at my archive.org page here:
http://www.archive.org/details/Sita1080pFLAC
(the video is directly downloadable
here
.)
To maximize playability and framerate vs. image quality I encoded it at 12fps (which works well as the original source is exactly 24fps). It runs pretty well. The audio is encoded at 192kbps btw. I highly recommend this movie.
