Plugin: Dict, ways to potentially enhance/improve the plugin
« on: December 06, 2009, 06:17:28 PM »
I often find Myself in need of the plugin Dict (with a current definitions library, and a keyboard layout I've optimised for the iPod Nano series it's actually very functional) but I have the following suggestions for how it's usability could be enhanced/increased.

Suggestion 1:

Adding the ability to browse through all/potential entries and definition candidates alphabetically

Suggestion 2:

If a definition is not found for the current query, display *similar* entries instead of the current "plugin returned error" if queried candidate is not found, as lets face it, You don't always know how to spell the word You're looking up (that could be the entire reason You're looking it up) making the way it works currently not so user friendly.

Suggestion 3:

Add a "Wildcard" value for searching potential definition candidates, Example:

entering "D**T"

Could display the possible candidates DART, DENT, DONT, and so on....

Suggestion 4:

Ability to "Edit Definitions" "On-the-Fly" using the text editor if the user wishes to add more/or redefine the current candidates definition.

Annother suggestion I have been toying around with in My head is that the candidates and definition lists could easily be editted to make the plugin a "language A"/"language B" translator? A word could be entered in the native language, and displayed in the chosen output language or vice versa.

Are these suggestions possible to implement?

Do they hold any merit?

Sincerely,
[St.]

Most of these seem reasonable to me - now it just needs someone to spend the time to implement it :)

P.S.  Why do you insist on capitalising all personal pronouns.  I know I'm not the only one to find it odd (and somewhat annoying :)).
