New "ipod" HD in iriver H140
Mr Whippy:
I've been looking to replace the 40GB HD in my Rockboxed H140, but I really want a single platter newer model due to lower noise and power consumption. Although ideally the 160GB model but I know Rockbox has limitation of 128GB :-(
MK1214GAH is the older 2 platter model and is known to work without a problem.
MK1234GAL is the new model, but has Apple logo which possibly means not compatible, why exactly? I heard it may have several partitions. Something about OSX MBR partition. Why can't these be deleted? I have Ubuntu Live CD, Windows system and have swissarmy knife. Couldn't I just delete these with certain OS/partition software? I assume I'll also need ZIF SATA or USB unless I can still delete them through the H140.
Has anyone tried a MK1234GAL?
Multiplex:
When I fitted an iPod replacement 30Gb drive in to my H120 I just used the format utility in the original firmware.
I did my H320 too but interestingly it didn't see the iPod formatted drive at all, and of course I'd put the H120 back together so had to take it apart to put the H320's HDD in there to format it. It might just have been a poor connection or some other fluke but I didn't bother chasing it down as once the H120 had formatted it and I re-connected it all was fine.
torne:
If you build Rockbox with LBA48 support it will support drives larger than 128GB.
Mr Whippy:
Doing a build seems complicated.

Go have a look at the Wiki page on the VM Ware Image - it is really not that complicated
