Everything's super slow - what I'm doing wrong?
torne:
The database is not used if you browse from the files view.
May have to look into this...
Keno:
I didn't browse the files view. After I copied all files and updated the database I just pressed play (tried both, on the player and on the remote). The first song started after 20s, skipping a song took 10s in both cases (with 2200 and 120 files).
torne:
Er, just pressed play in what context? On the menus pressing play just resumes whatever was being played previously, which will use the database if you selected the last thing from the database, and won't if you didn't...
Can you try selecting the files directly from the filesystem, with the dircache off, and see if that takes the same amount of time?
Keno:
I just pressed play - in no context. As I said, I copied the files, updated the database and pressed play (although I'm not sure if I pressed play first on the remote or on the player, sorry).
But I just tested what you said with both, 2200 songs and 120 songs. In both cases starting (and even stopping) a song took around 10s again. On top of it, when I selected the directory with the 2200 files it said "dir buffer is full!". That doesn't happen in the directory with the 120 files.
btw, I traveled to another town by train today. That was a perfect opportunity to test everything a bit longer (about 3 hours to be exact). During that time I encountered two other bugs. Should I write about them here as well or open a new thread?
torne:
There's no such thing as "no context" :) Rockbox must be on *some* screen. Play generally resumes the last playlist, is my point, which is a completely different operation to starting a new playlist by picking a file from a directory or the database.
If you have other problems you can make a new thread..
