mrobe 100: Installation Problem
« on: November 19, 2009, 07:33:09 PM »
I have tried installing Rockbox using the utility 4 separate times. Each successive time the installer recognizes that it is on the mrobe, but I reinstall. I unmount the volume associated with the mrobe, unplug the cord and then restart the mrobe; rockbox does not load. I am not certain what I have down wrong or why this is not working. I can see the .rockbox file on the mrobe. I noticed in the manual installation it indicates changing the pp5020.mi4 file name to OF.mi4; I tried to do this but I cannot get permission.
Does anyone have any suggestions?

Did you do a complete install of Rockbox, or just install a build?

When installing for the first time, you need to make sure you install both a build and the bootloader. This is covered in the manual. Without the bootloader, Rockbox will not start.

Also, what OS are you using?

Please post the output of the Help / Troubleshooting / System Trace dialog after installation.

I used the Rockbox Utility to do a complete install; I believe this included installing the bootloader.

"Please post the output of the Help / Troubleshooting / System Trace dialog after installation."

I am not certain how to do this?

Go to Help > Troubleshooting > System Trace, copy whatever dialog is there, and paste it here for us to see.

It sounds to me like you should probably run Rockbox Utility with administrative/root privileges, considering that I ran RB Util as sudo under Linux to install to my m:robe 100.

Go to Help > Troubleshooting > System Trace, copy whatever dialog is there, and paste it here for us to see.

You don't need to copy from that dialog, it's got a Save button that saves the contents of the window to a file which you can easily post somewhere on the web. You should also be able to attach it to a forum post.

Besides, the m:robe 100 doesn't require raw disk access (which other players like the Ipods do, and for that you need the appropriate permissions, usually root) so installation should work fine as user -- given that the user you're logged in as is allowed to write to the player.

Hello, I had the same problem and I solved it by downloading the file "pp5020.mi4 and copying the system folder in the m100 (the Rockbox manual for Olympus m: robe 100, November 20, 2009 pg. 15 Chapter 2.2.2) . Tell us. See you soon and ciao

Downloading the boot-loader file and copying it to the system folder in the mrobe was the fix for my problem. Thanks for your help. You guys were great.

This unfortunately doesn't help us finding what went wrong when using Rockbox Utility and fixing it, in case it's a bug ...

Probably there is a bug in the installer. At the end of the installation there is no trace of the file "pp520.mi4. I'm not so expert to understand "why?" Ciao

As he said, to help track down whether it's a bug in the installer, we need the log file. Saying "probably there is a bug in the installer" again doesn't provide any useful information.

Should I reload to get the log file. What is the name of the file?

In Rockbox Utility, go to the 'About' menu, then choose 'Troubleshoot' then 'System Trace'. Click on Save and you will be allowed to choose a filename for the log file
