Recording frequency on Sansa e200 (and in general).

I've observed that, on the Sansa e200 series, version 1, the Sansa firmware records at 16 KHz, while the Rockbox firmware records at 22.05 KHz. Does this mean that the Rockbox firmware can actually change the rate at which analog-to-digital conversion is done, or is Rockbox doing some kind of interpolation of sample data?

In either case, why does Rockbox only offer the 22.05 KHz rate?

IIRC the highest it can run at is 22.05KHz.

So the e200 v.1's can sample at rates up to 22.05 KHz but, for whatever reason, the Sansa original firmware only uses a 16 KHz sampling rate? I wonder why!

Interestingly, the e200 v.2's and, I think, all the Fuzes, sample at 24 KHz. (Rockbox, so far, doesn't record on any of these models.)

(For the reader who doesn't know this, 22.05 KHz is exactly half the sampling rate used on audio CDs. while 16 KHz and 24 KHz are 1/3 and 1/2, respectively, of the sampling rate used for DVD audio.)

The random bold really isn't needed.

I certainly didn't intend my use of bold to be random.  :P
