Recording frequency on Sansa e200 (and in general).
« on: November 17, 2009, 04:08:33 PM »
I've observed that, on the Sansa e200 series, version 1, the Sansa firmware records at 16 KHz, while the Rockbox firmware records at 22.05 KHz. Does this mean that the Rockbox firmware can actually change the rate at which analog-to-digital conversion is done, or is Rockbox doing some kind of interpolation of sample data?

In either case, why does Rockbox only offer the 22.05 KHz rate?

IIRC the highest it can run at is 22.05KHz.

IIRC the highest it can run at is 22.05KHz.
So the e200 v.1's can sample at rates up to 22.05 KHz but, for whatever reason, the Sansa original firmware only uses a 16 KHz sampling rate? I wonder why!

Interestingly, the e200 v.2's and, I think, all the Fuzes, sample at 24 KHz. (Rockbox, so far, doesn't record on any of these models.)

(For the reader who doesn't know this, 22.05 KHz is exactly half the sampling rate used on audio CDs. while 16 KHz and 24 KHz are 1/3 and 1/2, respectively, of the sampling rate used for DVD audio.)

The random bold really isn't needed.

I
certainly
didn't intend my use of bold to be random.  :P

Random or not, it is just annoying.

Bold should be used for emphasis or to highlight. There's no reason to emphasize "Sansa", "Rockbox", "Fuze", the model, and the frequencies. The first three aren't important in that sense anyway, and the frequencies will be spotted by anyone reading the text because they're the very subject of the text.

Basically, your use of bold just creates distraction where it should streamline. As there's no emotional content, and nothing that needs specifically to stand out, it shouldn't have been used at all.

Looking at your posting history, you basically seem to use bold for brand names and abbreviations - this is more or less pointless and annoying. If bold is showing up in every single post you make it's a clue you're abusing it.

Since two people have objected to my use of bold, I'll be much more restrained in my use thereof.  :(
