I've had my Rockbox player for about 5 or 6 months. Until now, all has been fine. I drag and drop files when needed, and everything works fine. Today, when I tried plugging my player into my PC, the PC just said "USB DEVICE NOT RECOGNIZED, the device has malfunctioned, etc.", This happens on every single computer I have tried it on (3 so far). I have a different sansa e200 player and that one works fine.
What could be the issue? It still plays fine, and even charges. I just can't get my PC to recognize it's existence as a drive so I can update the files in it.
First of all, it would be useful if you said whether your
e280 is a
v1 or
v2, since they behave differently in many ways, especially under
Rockbox. In particular, I believe that with a
v2 e2x0, Rockbox switches to the Sansa firmware to connect, but that with a
v1, Rockbox handles the connection itself, and I believe that it uses auto detect to choose
MTP when possible,
MSC otherwise. (I hope some Rockbox guru will correct me if I'm wrong!)
It seems from your explanation of your problem that you usually connect in
MSC mode. Has your
USB setting (in the original firmware) been changed to
MTP, accidentally or otherwise? That would prevent a
v2 e280 from connecting except using
Windows Media Player or some equivalent, and it wouldn't show up as a drive anyway. I'm not sure about how it would affect a
v1. (I'm guessing that you have a v2, BTW.)
