Do you think that an SBS for cabbiev2 needs to include information like recording bitrate and format, or should it be kept simple.

I think the gradient should be a tad bit less "bold". Otherwise I like it much.

Do we want that in SVN? I would think so.

Thanks for all of the feedback.  I'll start ASAP on Sansa, then Ipod, and others with grayscale coming last.  This will be my first major contribution to Rockbox :)

If I think about it, I think I would like the sbs at the bottom better too.

I'm not sure whether it's useful to copy WPS' icon layout. On some targets the icons are quite huge, it would be a bit of a waste. But it certainly looks more finished if the icons don't jump around when changing from menu and wps and back :/

Is this what you mean?  Here is what I have done by modifying the ClockedWcabOEM theme.

I think that if we're dropping the option for percent volume and percent battery, the %mv needs to be available for displaying the volume numerically, and some solution needs to be found for the battery numerically as well (the image is not very fine-grained) so that the default them can, at least partially, cater to both crowds preferences. The battery I think is less essential though, and the volume is relatively easily solved (assuming it doesn't already do this, I haven't tried).

you're talking about what I want to do? i.e removeing those options? %mv should be used on all targets (is being used already on cabbiev2 clip).. for the battery a simple enough option is displaying the percentage every 5s or so? or use %mv for that also... (though that might get confusing).. or think about allowing users to setup settings outside of config.cfg which are only used for skins (yes that idea which has no support from anyone but me :p )

Personally I think a battery percentage tag for displaying the battery numerically should be added then. I much prefer seeing a battery percentage than a picture to represent it.

The percentage is much more accurate. I personally find the percentage much more usefull than a picture, for it is not very precise.

there already is the tag there.... the difference is the choice between showing graphic or numeral is on the way out...

As I said in IRC, I do not understand why those settings have to be removed because you could still make use of it in the custom status bar (with the help of the settings tag). On the other hand the setting will take no effect if the .sbs someone uses doesn't contain code to handle this.

JdGordon's suggestion to have a file that belongs to the theme which allows themers to give their users choices did also sound complicated to me and will also lead to weird situation if someone switches themes and suddenly their setting to chose X is gone. (Discussions can be found in the IRC logs of October 29th, it's split in a few sections with the most parts in the afternoon and evening)

Both situations don't seem to be too nice...

I think the best thing is to leave the settings in, and then add a conditional for WPSes so that they can respect the settings.

Authors don't *have* to use that conditional, but then the default SBS and WPS can.

Having a %mv for battery, or having it alternate, are both pretty ugly, honestly.

I might be able to add text that shows the percent over the bat image, but im not sure.  Im waiting until the wps code stops changing until i start, but ill probably upload an sbs later today.

OK, How's this.  I'll have to move the Rockbox text up but ill do that later.

The first one is the current one and the second is the one before.
Should I add the gradient to the new one?
