If you can't play them by selecting them from the file browser either, then there's nothing wrong with the database: a file that can't be opened/parsed for some reason will not play no matter where you play it from, and will be removed from the database if the db is updated..

I thought that my files where corrupted somehow, but they all play perfectly on my computer (through Songbird), so I think there's somenthing else going on.

Embedded album art is known to cause problems as well as improper tag formats such as ape tags on mp3.

These things shouldn't prevent playback of MP3 files at least (Ogg Vorbis files is another matter). I couldn't find anything along these lines when searching for music playback bugs.

OK, I removed all the embedded album art
did nothing, still can't play some of my albums
The only way I could get them to re-appear is to provide new files/a new rip of the CD, and I can't necessary do that for all my files.
Should I jettison this MP3 player, and move on to another model?
