I can't charge the unit, from a wall outlet or the car charger, and utilize Rockbox at the same time.

Keep pressing the center button while plugging the cable, and rockbox will not reboot to the OF

This should be clarified that the unit must already be booted into rockbox. If you have had the unit powered down due to either battery drain or by having shut it off, then the power connection will automatically boot the Sansa OF.

Also, is the "official" v2 version the same as I have posted, or should I update?

Also, class 6 Transcend 16gb μSDHC is working fantastically.

The bootloader will always boot into the OF if you have USB inserted.  This is to make it harder to brick an AMS device.
