Nano 2G requires "restore" every time after file transfer

This happens with the latest build. It installs fine, runs fine, until i try to copy files to my ipod. File transfer rate crawls to a halt, stopping in the middle. I unplug it and bang, a white screen, telling me i need to restore.

So i do it, and it runs fine. I install rockbox again, and the same thing happens, while copying files. I guess something rather nasty happens during the file transfer. This is a huge problem, preventing me from using the latest builds.

PS: Also posted to the bugs area, but response in the forum is faster. So.

Actually, i know this is about the usb driver in rockbox. Could anyody please send me the latest build, usb features disabled ?

This really shouldn't happen with current builds, and I've never experienced it since r23307. The related code wasn't changed since then, so I can't see how any newer build could break that again. Which exact revision number are you having that issue with?
BTW the issue probably isn't coming from the USB side, it's rather the way rockbox accesses the flash, so it can potentially also occur if you modify any files inside rockbox, even though USB is far more likely to cause it as you're just transferring far bigger amounts of data to the flash.
So you say that the transfer suddenly stalls, and it stays at the rockbox USB screen, until you unplug it, and then it goes all by itself to "use itunes to restore"? I can't really imagine that. Can you please describe the exact reaction of the iPod, i.e. is there a panic message on the screen, does it lock up entirely, or what does it do?

If you want to disable USB support because of this, you can just hold the menu key when connecting the cable. It will only charge, but not connect to the PC then. But I don't think this bug will show up even if you let it connect, as long as you don't write huge amounts of data to it. Or does this also happen if you just plug and unplug it, without doing anything in between?

Hi. Thanks for the response.

First of all, i should say, this happens with the latest build. Actually, since the usb support is implemented, i am having issues. My first problem was, not being able to access the flash drive when connected. All i could see was a "0" capacity disk. After the "disable usb hid" option is implemented, that problem is gone (with hid disabled). But now i have this. I connect it properly, windows sees it, mounts it. No problem. I can see the files inside. But whenever i try to copy files to it, i notice a very slow transfer rate. This rate goes slower and slower, and at some point it stops completely unfinished. I safely unmount, rockbox still runs. But if i reset the player, i see the apple message which is telling me that i need a restore.

I restored like 3 times or more, trying different options selected and unselected, but it happened all the time.

The thing is, my ipod runs fine with the original apple firmware, and older rockbox builds. I am using r23284 right now, which is the latest build before the USB implementations. Having minor gui issues, but it runs fine.

I hope this helps.

Please specify what build *exactly*.  The latest build changes several times per day, so we need to be sure everyone is talking about the same thing.

OK, i just tried r23338, and it happened. White screen telling me i have to restore my ipod. Every kind of file operation ends this way. Deleting, copying, it doesn't matter.

By the way, i have a european ipod. Does it matter ?

EDIT: I just tried r23358, and i am restoring my ipod again. Am i the only one with this kind of problem here ?
