Can't install - thinks I have a MacPod
sporkubus:
Hi guys, I followed the directions about formatting a Mac iPod to Windows. Now if I go to the "About" page on my iPod, it says it's a Windows iPod, and Disk Utility tells me that my iPod is formatted MS-DOS (Fat32). But when I use Rockbox Utility to try Complete installation, I get this error:
Warning: This is a MacPod, Rockbox only runs on WinPods.
See http://www.rockbox.org/wiki/IpodConversionToFAT32
I'm trying to install Rockbox on a 4gb iPod Mini 2G. I'm using a Snow Leopard Macbook.
Klum:
Use the iPod patcher?

Looks pretty much like you are experiencing this issue: http://www.rockbox.org/tracker/task/9833. Unfortunately there is no Rockbox Utility developer working on OS X, so it's rather problematic finding the root cause as the problem doesn't appear on Windows and Linux. I'd be really interested in the MBR of your Ipod (i.e. the first 512 bytes of the hard disk) to have a closer look.
A workaround is to use ipodpatcher to install the bootloader (it's only the bootloader that's problematic, you can install everything else using the other tabs).

Klum: "use something else" isn't really helpful, as it doesn't solve anything.

I reformatted my ipod on my sister's PC, and I tried reinstalling Rockbox, and it told me that I had a MACpod, so i tried reformatting it again, same problem, used the ipod patcher, problem solved.

OK - I installed the bootloader using ipodpatcher. Tried to install Rockbox on my own without the utility but couldn't get it to work. Finally I used ipodpatcher again, installed Rockbox using the utility, and now everything works great so far! Thanks guys!
