kiosk mode - 'demo' of system functionality

This sounds dumb. but i would like to know if a plugin-activated demo mode is possible. it would be configurable by a script or macro, doing the functions on the player as instructed without user input.

the issue is i have a broken mini that turns on, but has no user input functionality. the thumbwheel does not work, it's because of a broken pcb connector inside (pads ripped out from pcb after heavy drop).  I would like to be able to tuck this broken player away in a enclosure at my office to function as an unattended music source for hold music.  :-\

This can be done with the current capabilities of Rockbox.  You would have to modify the settings file (.rockbox/config.cfg) on your computer for the proper settings, such as volume and repeat mode.

You would also set the start screen to Resume Playback.  This will switch to the "While Playing Screen" on power-up and resume playback.

You can read more about these and other features in our fine manual (see the link on the left of the page).

Edit: This will only work if you have something to resume.  If not, you would need to copy a couple of files from a working unit so that it can resume.

You could use LUA.
