SDIO Cards
« on: October 09, 2009, 11:09:22 AM »
Wouldn't it just improve Rockbox 10 fold, if it could support SDIO Wifi Cards? Currently, i believe only Windows Mobile Devices can use them, but couldn't a port or a firmware be made for them that would enable them to be put in any Rockbox device? We could have a D2 with Wifi!! That would be amazing!!

Since rockbox also doesn't have a network stack or web browser I don't think something like that would be very useful unless you were going to write a lot more then just a SDIO Wifi driver.

I see... hmm.. so essentially a web browser and other network software would need to be made first, huh?

Assuming you want to use the SDIO card for something, yes.

IMO if you want a full OS on a portable device, you should buy an iPod Touch, a smart phone, or a netbook rather then try and build rockbox into something like MacOS or Windows.

I agree - Rockbox is about playing music. I personally am not interested in seeing it grow into a complete mobile OS.
