Rockbox lagging on 5.5G Ipod
melsedir:
Hi.
I have been running Rockbox for awhile on a 5.5G Ipod 80GB but has recently had some problems with the playback and browsing. Sometimes during playback the player turns off (plenty of battery left), and sometimes it freezes for a few minutes during playback or when I browse the files (using the filebrowser). I formatted the ipod and tried with a fresh install but the same problem. I figuered the hdd was dying but as a last test I tried using the OF and it works flawlessly.
I've been trying with last nightly builds of rockbox and the one I got from the installer.
Any ideas?
EDIT: After running the OF running rockbox works great for a bit then the problems start again. I also get the sad ipod thingy like three or four times until rockbox actually boots.

If there are pauses while buffering or browsing files, turn the directory cache on. This will probably reduce or eliminate these delays.
Not sure about powering off though..

I've tried with both cache on and off with same results.

I have also noticed problems with playback, being that it takes a good 10-15 seconds longer than it normally does to start playing a song.
I did notice that the reason I kept getting lags on the database was because I had to re-initialize it, despite the fact that it was checked to be on in the settings. But if you just toggle it from on to off to on again it will reload that database info to cache.

I however never use the database view only the file browser view (with directory cache on). It seems to be more frequent on longer files ie audiobooks (not large files though each is like ~1hr@V9 vbr encoded).
I just can't understand why it works well in OF and not in Rockbox. I hate the OF...
