Ordered playlist, random playback ?

(1/1)

breversa:
Hello everyone,

This is my first post in this forum, and first of all, I'd like to thank all the contributors for the whole Rockbox project. :)

Now, here's my question :
I'm using Rockbox r22777-090921 on my Sansa Fuze v1, and I'm wondering whether it's possible to build an ordered playlist (for easy navigation), but have it played randomly ?

Playlist could display the tracks as follow :
Artist A - Track aa
Artist A - Track bb
Artist A - Track cc
Artist B - Track aa
Artist B - Track bb
Artist C - Track aa
Artist C - Track bb
Artist C - Track cc
Artist D - Track aa
Artist D - Track bb
Etc.

And playback would then be in random order.
This allows for easily searching/jumping to a chosen track.

I usually listen to my (varied) tracks in random order, but frequently find myself suddently wanting to listen to a particular track while driving, and navigating through the tag database is wayyyyyyyyyy too slow and concentration-requiring to be safe at that time (before I got my Fuze, I had a Samsung YP-U2 that I used only by touch :) ).

So, is there a way to achieve such behaviour ? Am I doing things wrong ?

Regards from France,
breversa

No, you can't do this directly, if however your playlist is a sorted one and you use the shuffle setting, you can turn shuffle off before viewing the playlist, maybe a candidate for the quick screen?

breversa:
Hum, too bad. :(

As aforementionned, I can't allow myself (and I hope nobody does either !) to have to look at my player and press half a dozen keys to select a single track while driving.

But anyway, thanks for clarifying this impossibility. :)

Shall I fill a feature request to have it implemented ? And if yes, where ? :)

JdGordon:
Shuffle append should actually be doable...

The Feature Ideas forum is the appropriate place to talk about ideas for new features.  It's not a feature request, exactly, just a place to flesh out ideas, discuss suitability, etc.  Whether or not an idea gets implemented is purely up to someone taking interest and deciding to work on it.
