iPod Video not recognized by Computer

<< < (2/7) > >>

robin0800:
If its asking for a driver it's not in disk mode. look on apples site to see how to access Disk mode

http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1363

KoolMan:
it is in disk mode.
it says it "disk Mode" at the top
and a check at the center
an says "ok to disconnect" but will not show up when i plug it in to my computer

*edit*

So after messing around with this ipod i found that there is a "rockbox.ipod" in the .rockbox folder after pressing select it reloads the RB firmware (i assume) is there a way to connect the HDD to another ipod and try to place a (*.ipod) original firmware and have it load?

what do you think?

KoolMan:
ipod is not recognized with my computer or with itunes
in disk mode still not recognized

i was thinking of taking in to a genius bar and asking them to restore. but what will they say about RockBox installed?

How do i fix it
i have a iPod 5.5th Gen 30GB the board is a 74 or 75

Thanks

Chronon:
Are you talking about Rockbox's bootloader?  The OF's bootloader is stored in flash ROM (along with the emergency disk mode).  It's not accessible by normal means.  The emergency disk mode is your best bet, though if you managed to break the OF bootloader then maybe this is broken too.  Does your computer acknowledge the attachment of a USB device (working or not) when you plug it in?  (Device Manger, for example, should tell you about the presence of a USB device, even if Windows doesn't know how to use it or it's not functioning properly.)

Maybe some more information about how it got broken can help others provide some help.

The Windows error means that the computer is having problems communicating with the USB device.  It cannot be fixed by installing the right driver.  When a device is able to successfully communicate with the computer, but the computer lacks a driver for it, then there is a different error message.

If the error keeps repeating even when you first put the iPod into emeregency disk mode (with the monochrome do not disconnect or ok to disconnect screen), then this is a hardware problem.  Try a different cable or a different USB port on the computer.  Ports on the back of the computer may have better signal quality. If none of this helps, then USB circuitry on the iPod may be damaged.

If you can put the hard drive in another iPod or otherwise connect it to a computer, you could restore the original OS, but that wouldn't fix a hardware problem.
