iPod Video not recognized by Computer
KoolMan:
would using a firewire make a difference? even though the usb cable works
Edit
i tried wiggling the Dock connector but nothing.
now i a was thinking if there where a way of loading the OF to the hdd and then just executing it from there (RoLo). that might work. (iThink) but i will need a apple_os.ipod file original firmware
torne:
The iPod Video doesn't support firewire. Only older models do.
RoLo'ing apple_os.ipod doesn't work; you can only do that for other copies of Rockbox. You don't have any way to get the file on there, anyway; if you take the disk out and access it directly you could just as easily reinstall the OF, so this is pointless.
Why are you so fixated on getting the OF to run? Do you actually not want rockbox at all, and just want the OF? You have been told time and time again that the OF will not be able to connect over USB either, so this won't fix your problem :)
Either get it repaired so USB works (at which point you can do whatever you like with it), or give up.
KoolMan:
well i don't want rockbox but if it could be fixed i would used it, if not then i would like to reset it to the original firmware. so its going to have to be that i buy a new board. and do the replacement my self.
torne:
It sounds like your USB interface is broken, as we've said; if the USB interface was fixed then Rockbox would almost certainly work fine, just the same as the original firmware. Whether you want to keep using Rockbox is up to you of course; if you don't, just hit Restore in iTunes once you get the USB fixed and iTunes will erase everything and put the OF back on there.
Just a note, though: if the current logic board is a 5.5G with 64MB of ram, and you replace it with a 5G logic board (32MB of ram), then the rockbox build installed on the player will not work properly as it will likely be a 64MB build... you can replace it with a 32MB build using the emergency disk mode, if you want to try out rockbox before you go back to the OF. If you get a 64MB logic board it should work fine whichever build is installed (the 32mb one runs fine, just less efficient).

I believe the latest version of rbutil auto-detects which logic board the Ipod has and automatically installs the proper version.
