You could manually restore the iPod and load music via the enclosure.  Then you could put the hard drive back into the iPod and use the iPod.  It wouldn't fix the inability to connect via USB, and you'd have to disassemble the iPod every time you wanted to put on new music.

When the cable and computer work properly, that is the logical conclusion.  The dock connector and all the relevant electronics are on the main board.

Did you inspect the dock connector on the iPod?  Check to see if any pins are bent or if there is dirt or oxidation in there.  Also, see if applying a bit of pressure on the plug in different directions can help.

KoolMan:
So he did not backup the OF b4 installing OSOS
I did try a little bit of bending tilting the 30 pin but have boy checked the pins on the iPod if the are bent or not making the connection

the iPod charges so I would not say it is the dock but the software in my view

is the .iPod firmware registered to a specific iPod? Or are they all universal?

Thanks

The Ipods Also have a diagnostic mode

This is quite a good guide and may help

KoolMan:
how do i exactly test the dock connection? i know its connecting and charging it with the AC but once i connect it to the computer it does not work and the battery starts to rundown fast in the so Disk mode.

Thanks

You don't need a backup of the OF from OSOS if you have access to iTunes; if your ipod was working well enough to restore the backup with ipodpatcher then it would be working well enough to use the itunes Restore feature to return the player to its original condition; both need exactly the same USB functionality. :)
