iPod Video not recognized by Computer

<< < (3/7) > >>

KoolMan:
Sorry about posting somewhere else.

The USB Cable Works, the Ports work too. I have an iPhone and took a video of what it is doing.(i will be posting that later.)

Is there a OF.ipod file? i am sure its out there but its probably Copyrighted or something. i saw a Rockbox.ipod and when i run it all i get is a reboot of the OS. i will be buying a Zif / Lif to USB  Enclosure that way i can try to transfer the files if necessary there only 10 - 15 bucks

Here is the link to the videos

this is what happens when i plug in the ipod to the computer.

GodEater:
Seriously - if you have the ipod in disk mode, and your computer can't see it properly then there *is* a hardware problem somewhere.

Getting hold of the original firmware will NOT magically fix that.

Either try a different ipod cable and a different USB port, or give up.

robin0800:
I think the confusion comes from apples web site as they show three pictures and your right

--- Quote ---it is in disk mode.
it says it "disk Mode" at the top
and a check at the center
an says "ok to disconnect
--- End quote ---
This is what apple say but it is wrong.
This Should only appear after disk mode has been exited.

For disk mode you are looking for a circle with a line through it and words that say "do not disconnect"
That is disk mode.

torne:
If the previous owner installed rockbox to the OSOS image in the firmware partition, replacing the original firmware (http://www.rockbox.org/wiki/Main/IpodPatcher#4_OSOS_contains_only_Rockbox) then the hold switch will indeed never start the OF no matter how early you switch it. If the OF is there but you're not managing to get the hold switch in time, though, then you can try turning the player off from Rockbox (keep holding down play) then power the player on by pressing and holding menu (the bootloader also checks for this to dualboot).

If you boot to emergency disk mode without a USB cable connected, it will indeed display the "OK to disconnect" screen - it only changes to "do not disconnect" once it's plugged in and the host PC has connected to it. If it never changes, then the USB connection is faulty: if the cable works fine with your iphone then it's probably not that; try another computer (not just another port) in case Windows has become confused about what it should treat the device as. If it still doesn't work, then the iPod itself is faulty, either the dock connector or the actual USB interface, and it will need physical repair.

GodEater:
Although it's fair to bear in mind that the iPhone does not present itself as a UMS device - so the cable still *might* be the problem. Unlikely, but possible.
