iPod Video not recognized by Computer

(1/7) > >>

KoolMan:
So a friend game me this iPod and said he messed it all up. now it can only be charged. i would like to just do a complete restore using itunes but my computer will not recognize it let alone come up in itunes

i think what he did was try to make it boot faster by getting rid of the Original Firmware. i do not know how he did it but i would like to get rid of it completely.

When i plug the ipod in to the computer lets say its loaded up with RB and i get the usb  from the right and then it restarts and goes into disk mode. but i can not do anything with it.
When i reset it (menu+center) and switch to hold(to try to load OF)  it just says cleared in the center. and starts up RB

Is there a driver that i can point it at so that it does not just say unknown in my USB Devices?

Thanks
Hope i can get this fixed

What can't you do?  Why?

That means you're not flicking "hold" on early enough.  You have to do it before the backlight comes on at the Apple logo screen.

And what model iPod is this, and what version of Rockbox?

KoolMan:
i have a 5.5g ipod video
Rockbox is 3.3

I do switch the hold early enough all i get is the rockbox background and "Cleared"

i want to restore to the original Apple Firmware. but i can't because my computer does not recognize it. I went under the storage management but it does not show up either.

When i plug it in, it says that the driver was not found and give me a USB log with a bubble to click on but only takes me to the device manager

i took a pic of the boot with the hold on

When i plug in the ipod to my computer this is what it does.

Once its at the last one the battery starts to drain. fast.

Then after that in windows this comes up

When i click on it (the bubble above) this comes up

The system will not allow me to post the picture like i did with the first one.

Thanks

If you can get it to Disk Mode, then you should be able to restore it from iTunes. Disk Mode is all Apple code so isn't affected by Rockbox at all.

So when you plug the iPod into your computer, it should reboot into Disk Mode - this is expected behaviour with 3.3.

If Disk Mode changes to the "OK to disconnect" screen without you trying to Safely Remove Hardware, then it might be that the USB lead is faulty. It'd be worth trying a friend's verified working cable to test that.

cool_walking_ is right that you have to be quick with enabling hold to bring up the OF, although I understand from your first post that the OF isn't there anymore.

KoolMan:
When i plug it in to the computer it recognizes that there is a Device there but will not recognize that it is a iPod. since it is not recognized as an iPod iTunes does not recognize it.

I can try to reinstall the driver but i do not know where to download the information.

this is what i get
