How to completely remove rbutil?

(1/2) > >>

Miq:
I somewhat failed installing rbutil on my WinXP box. After the first start, I get a pop-up telling me this is a new installation run for the first time - and then nothing. Even worse, the system hangs up all previously started applications, only a reboot saves it.

Ok then, I thought, remove the thing and start anew. But there seems to be some data left on the disk driving any further install of rbutil nuts again.

So what do I have to remove before doing a fresh attempt?

Domonoky:
What do you mean with "and then nothing." ?
It should put you into the configuration dialog of rbutil so you can choose/auodetect your target.

If you want to remove rbutil completely, just delete rbutilqt.exe and maybe the the user configuration.
(On windows this is somewhere at "/Documents & Settings/[user]/ApplicationData/rockbox.org/RockboxUtility.ini", the path may differ depending on your OS and locale).
Although this shouldnt be needed.

Which rbutil version did you use ?

GodEater:
I'm not quite sure what you mean by "install" either. There is no installer - you just unzip it wherever you want it, and then run it.

Miq:
Sorry, it took some days for me to come back here again.

I used rbutil 1.2.1, but a minute ago tried 1.2.3 once more. I removed the rockbox.org directory in Application data, unzipped the rbutilqt-v1.2.3.zip in a separate directory, went in there and started rbutilqt.exe.
The main window comes up, seconds later a message box telling me "This is a new installation of RButil...", that is visible 2 or three seconds. Then both windows will disappear and nothing more happens.
In the Task List no process with RB... or Rockbox... is to be seen.
If I then start rbutilqt again, the main window comes up, but is busy without any interaction possible. In the Task List now rbutilqt is visible, with about 21MB RAM usage. The only way to get rid of it is to kill the process. Worse: no network access is possible anymore, Browser, Mail etc. will hang up - only a reboot helps.

This definitely can't be the fault of Rockbox Utility -- it does access the network, but it doesn't (and can't) change anything with the systems network access. You should tell us more details about your system. Especially, are you using some kind of personal firewall / packet filter? Your issue description sounds like something is blocking network access, causing Rockbox Utility *and* the rest of the system to hang -- which could happen with some bad "personal firewall" application blocking all network accesses until you told it what to do with the "offending" application.
