Sansa Clip, should I update official FW?

I have a bit of experience with PSP firmware hacks, so I was wondering if updating my Sansa Clip's official firmware to the latest official firmware would in any way hurt my chances of loading up Rockbox on my Clip (should Rockbox be released for the Clip in the future)?

I currently have version V01.01.29A


Also, slightly unrelated, today an entire row of pixels on my Clip's display died, does anybody know a fix for this?

I don't see how this is related to Rockbox Utility -- there is no (official) support for the Clip, nor support in Rockbox Utility for the clip.
