Slow browsing and playlist freezing
(1/1)
crabby7:
Hi. First of all, I must say I'm a very happy rockbox user on X5L. Thanks to all developers & testers .
Here is my problem : since version 3.3 (build 060519-1716), I noticed that browsing my music files and directories is much slower than in previous version (3.2.xx, don't remember the exact subversion). It takes 2 to 3 seconds to go up to parent directories. Strange... but not so critic.
Additionally, I use the dynamic playlist. Sometimes, but quite frequently, when skipping a track forward, rockbox just freeze. Only way is to push the off button until a "hard shutdown".
I tried to clean completely the rockbox installation (except bootloader) and did a full install with rbutilqt. Same behaviour.
Any idea :-\
Thanks.

Turn dircache on if it is off, also see the second point.

Odd. Try checking the disk to see if it is corrupted - "chkdsk" on Windows, "fsck.vfat" on linux.

Right, it was off. Now it's as fast as before. Thanks a lot for quick answer.

Concerning the freeze on dynamic list, I've done a chkdsk and the program reported some errors. I've done a chkdsk /f to fix problems. I will report the result after some testing.
Anyway, thanks for fast & expert support, that is service !
--------------------September, 20th ---------
--> After some testing, I'm was able to reproduce the sequence that made rockbox freeze (and crash)
-I start playback from one directory (e.g. /Warren Suicide/The Hello/)
- Go to another directory, then use "insert next"
- Go to another directory, ask to start playback on any track, reply yes to delete the dynamic playlist... here is the crash pressing "select"
I did many tries on different music files with the same result.
So I did two things :
- Remove all the cover.100x100.jpg files,
- initialise the database, also I don't use it ('cause I navigate faster with file browsing).
Now the sequence does not crash rockbox. As I'm not a developper, I just give the info in case one of you is interrested in that behaviour.
