How to turn rockbox off?

<< < (2/2)

GodEater:
If you've held the play button for a minute and your iPod has not powered off, then something is broken. It shouldn't take nearly that long, maybe 5 seconds at the most.

It doesn't matter which screen you're in in Rockbox - this works from anywhere.

It's also not the same key press as "Long Play" - There are actually three seperate button push events on the Play key, "Short press on Play", "Long press on Play" and then "Extremely long press on Play". As JdGordon says this is simply due to a lack of buttons on the iPod.

The only way to map shutdown to something else on your iPod is to change the source code and compile your own build.

JdGordon:
there is a patch on the tracker to add shutdown to the menu, which I would have nothing against putting it in for some targets, but others do....

Llorean:
I personally think it should go in for all targets. Long button presses can be difficult for a wide range of people including the elderly, and so could be considered an accessibility feature (not to mention having it in the menu reduces the minimum number of buttons for Rockbox to work by one).

howso:
Thanks for the replies everyone. GodEater you're probably right that something is wrong with the play button as the unit is many years old. I like the idea of adding shutdown to the menu because in addition to Lloreans points it would also help in my case (where button functions no longer physically work properly on the hardware).
