Sansa Fuze version
« on: September 15, 2009, 08:06:38 PM »
Hi. I am probably going to buy a Sansa Fuze in the near future for Rockbox use, because my Sansa e200 have started to glitch (correct word?) in the line-in plug. I.e you need to keep the earphone plug pushed towards the left to get sound in both ears, and it works on other devices.

However, i have seen that Fuze v1 is working quite well, atleast for music playback which is more important than the rest for me. While the v2 still isnt working really yet.

So i am wondering if theres a way to identify which version the Fuze is when you buy it, or preferably before you buy it, without voiding the warranty? So i don't come home with a v2 model.

If not, is there any ETA on when the Fuze v2 will have a working audio player? Plugins, video, etc arent really important.

Thanks in advance! Cheers.

You can tell the version of the player by looking at the firmware version its running.  There is no way to do this without buying it first.

We don't do ETAs for new ports.  No one is working on it.

You can also tell by the box type and model number:

The box for the V1 fuzes look like this:
http://www.everyjoe.com/gadgenista/files/2008/09/sansa-fuze-in-a-box.jpg

V2 Boxes look like this:
http://www.letsgomobile.org/images/news/sandisk/sandisk-sansa-fuze-mp3-player1.jpg

or this:
http://www.anythingbutipod.com/forum/picture.php?albumid=122&pictureid=918

Also,

V1 Fuzes will have a model number ending with "A70" -e.g. SDMX14R-008GS-A70
V2 Fuzes will have a model number ening with "A57" -e.g. SDMX14R-008GS-A57

I think the A in A70 is probably America as the ones in the UK are E70 European.
This aside good find and will be very useful many thanks.

Unfortunately, that's not true. The V1 can be found in the V2 box, and the V2 can be found in the V1 box.

How reliable is the model number for identifying the Fuze v1 vs. v2?  I notice that Sandisk lists only the A70 (http://www.sandisk.com/products/sansa-music-and-video-players/sandisk-sansa-fuze.aspx), but when I've looked in stores, they have the A57 model.  Seems kind of strange that they'd only be selling the v1 Fuzes.

Well i got a Sansa Fuze in Christmas Present which i beleive to be the V2 one. The version of my Firmware is V02.02.28F. When i compared the sound between my old e250 with Rockbox and the Fuze i just wanted Rockbox bad, mainly because the original firmware have really bad bass in my opinion.

I was thinking of returning my Fuze player and buy a Rockbox compitable one but since No one is still in Production today it's hard. And shipping from accross the world isnt really an Option for me. So i think i'm just stick to this one untill atleast the Audio playback functions work on Rockbox for the v2. Or else i will just try and find some Mp3 which have a good Original firmware.

So, is there any development at all on the v2 Version of the Fuze? And is there anything i can help with to the v2 Development without screwing my Player over or Knowing programming language?

If theres anyone working on it they haven't mentioned it around here.  Though maybe as the V1 players become rare people will become more interested in the V2.

Well, do you think it would be better to just Return my Player and try to get a v1 from somewhere? Because if theres no Progress, theres no point keeping my v2 Player ^^.

And if that's the case, maybe theres any Interest from any Developer on trading a v1 Fuze for my v2 one. My only demands are that it's 8Gb (Since my v2 is 8Gb) and that it's Either Black or Silver. And of course in good condition.

Would be good if anyone got any info about the v2 Development. Thanks.

Since no one is working on it, and ports take many months or years once someone is working on it, I would not expect a port any time soon.

Ok, Thanks for the Info. Then i'll probably try to Return the Player to the Store and find another one. Althought it would be nice if there's any Player that have Parametric EQ or Sound settings Comparable to the Rockbox. IF anyone knows a Player that has it, please tell me :)
Or if anyone is still Interested in Trading my v2 for a v1 or selling me a v1 Fuze (If you live in Europe to avoid heavy Shipping costs, etc.)

Since the sound is so Important to me i can't have a Player where i can't have the sound i want, like i could with the Rockbox

EDIT: After managing to listen to some songs on my e250 i figured that i must have rockbox on my player :P if anyone have a Fuze v1 or sansa e200 v2 for sale or trading for my Fuze v2. Concact me ASAP! (Anywhere in the world).

Otherwise, you may suggest an Rockbox future compitable Player which is still in stores (That's getting anywhere and not stuck like the Fuze v2.

EDIT 2: I've found an Fuze with the Art. nr. SDMX14R-008GK-E70 on a Internet shop. How sure can i be that it is the v1 version? I've also sent them a mail to ask about it but i don't expect them to actually figure it out.

I've also found a E270 on another Internet shop. From what i've heard all the e200 series is Rockboxable to date and is a pretty safe deal, or is it any version of the e200 series that won't work with Rockbox?

I really need your help now guys! :)

The only way to be certain that it is a v1 Fuze is to check the version of the original firmware.  You will need to get the seller to power on the unit and verify which firmware version is installed.

There are three versions of the e200 and all are able to run Rockbox.  The e200v2 is still lacking USB support within Rockbox, but dual booting to the original firmware is used to overcome  that deficiency.

e200, e200R and e200 v2? When i first got Rockbox on my e200 v1 it had the same USB problem as v2 has. But this isnt a problem to me when i just boot the OF when i wan't to access the USB. Infact, this is what i still do on my e200 v1 since i use r16653-cpchan-branch-080313, a pretty old build in other words.

But thanks for the help!
