Ipod video cf mod questions

(1/1)

cereal_killer:
Hello Rockbox-people!

I'm new to this Forum and first of all I want to say thanks to all Rockbox contributors for making the DAP world a lot more wonderful.

I looked around, but couldn't find an answer to my questions.

I am planing to mod a Ipod Video with an 32 GB CF card because I think this is the best way to satisfy my DAP needs (Rockbox, large flash capacity, long battery life, big screen, pictureflow...) So I want to ask you some things, that are still unclear for me and hope for some suggestions. I think I have the skills to do the mod, but besides that:

1) which adaptor do you suggest (iflash? others?)
2) which 32 GB compact flash card works best?
2) i suppose, that Rockbox 3.3 is not working for that mod, is that right? but what would be the way to make it possible to use RB 3.3 on an cf-modded ipod Video? (I want to use pictureflow Cool)
3) what other things do I have to keep in mind, that I may not have thought about yet in my pleasant anticipation to have a perfect DAP.

Regards, c_k.

LambdaCalculus:
1) I bought an iFlash Mk II adapter (link here) after hearing high praise about it. It fits perfectly inside the iPod video, doesn't slide around, and uses the same ZIF ribbon connector as the original hard drive.

2) Personally, I used a Transcend 133x 32GB card. But your mileage may vary. Best rule of thumb is to buy a good, fast card.

3) Rockbox 3.3 works perfectly fine with a CF modded iPod.

4) If you're going to open your iPod to do the CF mod, you can also replace the battery with a higher capacity battery.
