H140 - Playback error
« on: September 12, 2009, 01:06:09 PM »
Guys,

Often if I access the disk at the moment playback slows down, halts and I get this error:

I04: IllInstr
at 32F05CC0

then pressing Play reboots into rockbox - I have a version of RB going back to about 2006 and a 111Gb ZIF drive with a Libmart adapter.

Any ideas?

Thanks

Don't use versions of Rockbox that are three years out of date?

Update and try again.  We don't support anything that old, there have been thousands of changes since then.

I think I tried a newer version of RB a few years ago but I didn't like something about it, maybe new menu layouts, maybe I needed to update the WPS or something. It still didn't support one-button A-B either.

Perhaps I'll try it again anyway.

Is there still an 'I04 IllInstr' in the new code? Any idea what it means? It may have something to do with the ZIF hard disk / adapter since my version of RB has been working fine for 3 years.

Ta

Edit: Installed current version and it hangs as soon as I try to go into any of the sub menus.  Going back to old version...

Was it working totally fine, or did you always have the IO4 error?

The old version is no longer supported.  We will glady help you with a current version, but not a three year old version.

Yes totally fine.

See above. The current version hangs as soon as I try to access any sub menus.

And does it work with the original drive? Since you've physically modified your player, the first thing to investigate would be if that modification is bad.

Thanks Llorean.  I'll experiment with a few things, see how it goes and get back to you guys.

I just thought I'd post to see if anyone had come across it before to save me some time. It's a very weird experience to have a digital player slow the music down like someone had pulled the plug on a vinyl record player... :o

I know, but you then said:

Going back to old version...

So if you are now current again, then all is well :)

As Llorean says, the mod is the first suspect.

One thing I could imagine (though I don't know if that could cause an IllInstr) is running a H120 build on a H100. Does your player possibly have a H100 mainboard? Those have a smaller RAM, and a similar issue frequently comes up with the Ipod 5.5G (as there are two different versions with a different amount of RAM).

Well, I definitely have an H140 and an H120 RB build.

I'm wondering if there is some kind of MP3 file corruption going on.

OK after rooting around on Mistic I'm sure this is a mother/ATA daughter board issue.

Tried new/old RB versions and IDE/ZIF drives. Only when I wedge a piece of plastic in at the bottom of the battery does it provide a tighter fit and a better connection. Only getting occasional freezes now but a temporary solution, no doubt.

Cheers!

You don't say whether you tried my suggestion or not either.
