rbutilqt crash while trying to find Sansa Fuze
« on: September 08, 2009, 11:54:17 PM »
Hi, I am running into a brick wall trying to install Rockbox on my Sansa Fuze (V1 type, 4GB) which I just received today.

I have flashed it to firmware version 01.02.26 which applied successfully (it runs OK under the native firmware), but when I try to run rbutilqt.exe (version 1.2.2) it does not show me the Fuze under the Sansa tree, and, when I tell it to try to autodetect, it hangs, then my screen goes pale, and then it crashes, with no message (other than a Windows message telling me that it crashed).

I am logged in as an administrator, and also tried explicitly launching the program via "run as administrator" but the results are the same.

The Fuze is in MSC mode.

I have successfully installed Rockbox on my Sansa e260 V1 using an earlier version of the RockboxUtility, and updated it to version 3.3 using the current version of rbutilqt.exe without any problems, but I am up against a brick wall with my Fuze.

Can anyone give me any suggestions?

Thanks in advance!

The Rockbox Utility does not yet support the Fuze as this is still an unsupported player.

There is an official test build that you can try - http://forums.rockbox.org/index.php?topic=22137.0

Thanks for the reply!

I coulda swore I read somewhere that the Fuze and the e200v2 were now supported by the RB Utility (I would like to get my e200v2 Rockboxed too), but I obviously didn't! (smacks forehead/feels dumb!)

I think I'd better hold off and wait for the automated installer -- I really don't want to fatfinger the installation and brick my nice new player. (I have some spinal issues that wreak hell with my fine motor stuff -- a real PITA for someone who used to do fine-scale tech repair).

I really love the way RB makes the e200 video USABLE.  Prior to setting it up with Rockbox, I wrestled with that vomitus SMC -- both versions -- until giving up in frustration.  The V1 and V2 have completely different video characteristics, and it's amazing how they managed to render them BOTH absolutely useless.

But, with Rockbox, video is really sweet!  I can easily bookmark multiple files, easily transcode them, easily load them via SD cards -- Rockbox is the ONLY thing that makes video usable on the e200.

From what little bit of examination I've given the Fuze, they did improve the video, to the point that it's mostly usable once you get it onto the player -- but, the SMC is still a stinking heap of dog waste (apologies to Frank Zappa) -- really not worth using (I struggled to get a SHORT clip through it to check out the player).

I will eagerly await the final release of RB for these platforms!

Preliminary support has been added to SVN. This doesn't tell anything (or require) already released binaries to include this support, though.
