AJB Studio 20 Volume Display
brted:
I've had an Archos Jukebox Studio 20 for a long time and just upgraded the hard drive to 60 GB. As part of that I had to upgrade to the latest Rockbox version (3.3) because older versions would give me some error about saving information.
Anyway, on the old version I had which was 1.3 or 1.4 when you changed the volume it would show a percentage. I understand the new version is supposed to show decibels. However when I am changing the volume, the top line of the display just says "Vol:" with nothing after the colon. I can get a rough idea about the volume by looking at the bar display icon in the upper right, but it only has a few bars. Do I need some kind of font to show decibels, or is this just a bug? Also, I'd prefer to see % instead of decibels if that is possible.
I know this isn't a WPS issue, but I wasn't sure where else to post this.

This sounds like it is a WPS issue, although you're not stating when you see this. But you are not describing the standard statusbar so I'm assuming you are talking about the WPS (the standard statusbar does not show "Vol:" when you change the volume and the battery icon is in the top left and doesn't contain a few "bars").
If I'm right - which WPS are you using?
And you could have the volume in some kind of percentage but only through a looong line in the WPS which is a bit complicated (and handling of 0dB and above 0dB could add difficulty).

Thanks for replying. When I hold down MENU and + or - to change the volume, the first line of the display (there are only two lines) goes from scrolling the name of the song that is currently playing to just VOL:
I was using the default WPS, but I have since changed it to a pretty simple custom display as follows:
%s%ia - %it
%pc%ar%pt
I wasn't using a theme. I tried adding a theme with "volume display: numeric" but I don't think that tag is designed for this device so it didn't change anything.
I can live with decibels . . .

Sorry for the late reply. I'm still not clear where this Vol: line would come from and what you did expect. Ah wait, you have a "Studio" or "Player" - I start understanding now.
OK, now I'm trying to find out whether such an automatic splash that shows the volume when changing it existed and if it should still exist and is broken... (I don't have such a device, so I'm asking someone else and hope to find out more soon). From your description it starts sounding like it is a bug if the Vol: line is still there. If it isn't (or for a quick "fix" for you) you could add the decibel display while changing volume to your second line in the WPS using the %mv tag conditionally (see CustomWPS in the wiki), it feels like a dirty hack though...
Edit: Please also try a current build (as you are expected to) - even if not very likely, the issue could be fixed by now...

Sorry not to have checked the current build before. I usually skip the latest builds of stuff thinking they will be buggy. It looks like the current build does fix the problem and displays the dB next to VOL: like it seems like it is supposed to. Thanks for the advice.
