FLAC file not playing completely
« on: September 04, 2009, 01:00:38 PM »
I'm having a problem playing a FLAC file in Rockbox (versions 3.3 and r22622). The file was ripped using EAC in secure mode from an original store-bought CD, plays fine in foobar2000 and Media Player Classic HC on my desktop machine and verifies OK in FLAC Frontend. It's 7:48 long and always skips to the end or to the next track (if there is one) around the 5:10 mark. The problem is easily reproducible and I can upload the file in question if anyone's willing to look into it. Thanks in advance!

If you copy the file back from your DAP to the PC, does it still play fine?

I tried copying the file back from my DAP (a Sansa e200 v1) back to the PC and it skipped briefly at the same point, although foobar2000 did go on to play the rest of the song. I've just tried recopying the original ripped FLAC and the file seems to play OK now, but I don't think this is the first time this has happened for me - any ideas on what could be causing the problem?

It might be file system corruption (try running chkdsk), or it might be corruption during USB transfer.

Yep, it seems to be the same problem (corruption occuring during USB transfer). FLAC Frontend's Test function will pick up the corrupted files on the DAP and copying the file over again usually fixes the problem, which makes it hard to reproduce ??? Hope this bug gets fixed at some point though!

At one point I remember developers talking about a Sansa data corruption bug.  I was under the impression that people thought it was fixed before USB was officially enabled, but could it still be present?

(I don't know any details.  I've never had a Sansa and I didn't feel I could contribute so I didn't pay much attention to that.  It would be nice if someone familiar with e200 v1 and c200 v1 could comment.)

Does the problem happen when writing to internal memory, the MicroSD card or both?

I hope so as well, but people don't seem to want to answer the question I asked on the tracker. That makes it a bit hard to find out what the bug could be.

FS#8663 - Data corruption on usb write on sansa (SD driver bugs)
think this is the tracker entry.
I asked in irc if it  still applies and got no answer.
Not sure if it helps but I've never seen this problem on my C240

I experienced the problem when writing to internal memory, I've never had the error occur when copying to MicroSD card but that might just be luck on my part.

gevaerts - if it helps, I've just tried copying 930 MB worth of FLAC files to my e200 v1's internal memory (running build r22622) and none of the files were corrupted.
