Problem with voice menus on Archos Recorder v1

(1/1)

snstanton:
I just tried upgrading my Archos Recorder from version 2.5 (with voice menus) to 3.3, but I have been unable to get the voice menus working in the new version.  My directory and song .talk files are working normally, but none of the menus talk.  I have verified that Settings > General Settings > Voice > Voice Menus is set to Yes.  I have copied the english.voice file for the release into /.rockbox/langs.  I have tried the 3.3 release version, the latest build, and 3.1 (using the matching .voice file for each), to no avail.  I finally had to roll back to 2.5, which still works fine with voice menus.

So, has anyone else gotten voice menus to work on a Recorder?  Any suggestions as to what I should try next?

Llorean:
Are you sure you're using the right voice file for use with the Archos Recorder? There are multiple voice files now, rather than a single one that is used for all players.

snstanton:
I believe so.  The first time, I used the rockbox utility installer.  On my second attempt I tried a manual install, using the "English Voice" link below the Archos Recorder v1 installer on the byhand.cgi page.   For my third attempt, I tried an earlier build with its associated voice file.  None of these worked.

Llorean:
It may be that voice files have gotten too large again. Have you tried creating your own at lower quality/size?
