The trouble is, is that Rockbox is written by volunteers in their spare time.  If none of the existing developers fancies spending their spare time writing a feature for you that they themselves won't use, then there is nothing to be done about it.  You can't force volunteers to give up their time for you.

Personally I think your original idea has merit, but I don't care enough about it to learn how to do it.  Coding can be learnt - you seem to think that because you don't want to expend your time learning how to do it, then someone else should give up their time to do something for you that they don't want.  Sure, they would do it quicker then you, but it is *their* time.

Don't despair, sometimes there are folk who can just about code and are looking for an intellectual challenge and feel the desire to give something back to the project, are prepared to have a go...

All the stuff I contributed got factored out later (and quite rightly too) but the functionality remains.

And I looked at the recording code once... That's way above my skills, but I have to say that the Rockbox it nice code to work on - you could do a lot worse than it for a real project to hone your skills on if you decided to learn C...
