Rockbox will work with "Archos 2" ?
« on: July 23, 2009, 06:06:13 AM »
Hi there!

I just got a new ARCHOS 2 Player, and am wondering if i can use Rockbox with it.
If so - what release can i install?
And if not, are you planning to get to this version?

(It's not the V2 (FM) Recorder, it's just "2")

Maybe this is answered somewhere else, but i could not find any post when searching.

It will not.  All supported players are listed on the frontpage of www.rockbox.org.
Images of all supported players are at http://build.rockbox.org/

So is there going to be a Rockbox version for Archos 2? The original firmware just sucks :(

If it's that bad then just return the player, check the supplied list of supported Rockbox players, and search out ebay.

The Archos 2 is the most bang-for-the-buck you can buy. I bought it for 40£ (shipping included). Amazon.com sold it for 32$ earlier.

Thte features are impressive. And the things I like most is the standard mini-usb port and the SDHC expansion slot, 8GB internal storage is also good.

I used Rockbox on an earlier device Sandisk Sansa e260. The firmware on the Archos 2 is really REALLY bad, in comparison. It cannot resume an MP3 at the same position after a pause and a power-cycle, which means that audiobooks is a no-no.

Hopefully they will release a better firmware for the Archos 2. But one could still dream about Rockbox on this device. It would be a perfect match :)

I don't see that this thread is going to serve any more purpose really, so I'm going to lock it.
