FS#10443 & 10444 - Bugs with the Play Next option
« on: August 21, 2009, 07:40:03 AM »
Hey,

I opened up those 2 bugs in the FS about a month ago but nobody seemed to notice them, so i decided to bring them up here.
FS#10443 - This is definitely a bug, choosing "Play Next" from the playlist option menu will delete the Dynamic Playlist without a warning.

FS#10444 - I think that the playlist created from the Play Next should not be considered dynamic (they will never contain more then 1 file or folder), While i consider it a bug, it can be open for discussion.

If it's not a dynamic playlist, what kind of playlist should it be then? Rockbox playback is heavily playlist centric, which means that there's always a playlist involved. If that is no real playlist it's the dynamic playlist.

I should clarify on that as i did inside the FS.
By not being a Dynamic playlist i meant it shouldn't trigger the "Are you sure you want to delete the dynamic playlist" question when you pick another song afterwards.
The definition i use for Dynamic is therefore taken from the option "Warn When Erasing Dynamic Playlist"

But everything is consistent: You create a dynamic playlist and are then warned when you try to erase it.  If you don't want to be warned you can turn off the warnings.

I want to be warned when deleting a dynamic playlist, but i don't think that IS a dynamic playlist.
It is the same as picking a single track or folder (which i often do).
If picking a single track/folder is NOT a dynamic playlist, why is the playlist created with the play next IS a dynamic one?

Dynamic playlist.
A dynamic playlist is a playlist that is created “On the fly.” Any time you insert or queue tracks using the Playlist submenu (see section 4.4.3), you are creating (or adding to) a dynamic playlist.

If you view the playlist after "Play Next" you will find that it is the set of files you want to play next preceded by the track that's currently playing.

Maybe you think that the playlists produced this way should be treated like a playlist produced by selecting a file within a directory for playback but this isn't currently the case.  I would not consider this a bug.

Ok, like i wrote in the first thread, i know this one is not a 100% bug, maybe more a feature tweak request.
The thing is, if you view the playlist after the first track is finished (after picking play next of course) then the original track is deleted from the playlist.
This leaves you with the same result as if you would have simply picked that single track/folder to play without using the play next.
Thats why i don't think it should be treated as a Dynamic playlist.

Whatever this one is changed or not, there is also FS#10443 which is definitely a bug.
