installing rockbox on 120gb ipod classic

(1/1)

black3nd:
Is it possible is to download rock box on to a 120 GB pod classic?

bluebrother:
Did you read the front page? It says

--- Quote ---Rockbox is an open source firmware for mp3 players, written from scratch. It runs on a wide range of players:

    * Apple: 1st through 5.5th generation iPod, iPod Mini and 1st generation iPod Nano
(not the Shuffle, 2nd/3rd/4th gen Nano, Classic or Touch)

--- End quote ---

That's on the top of the front page. Is it that hard to understand?

Ebonrook:
I have the latest iPod 120gb Classic, I tried running the Rockbox Utility and installing both 4th and 5th Gen versions.

Every time it comes up "error reading partition table - possibly not an iPod"

What should I do to fix it? Can't figure out why it shouldn't work...

Edit

I just clicked autodetect, and it says I have 6th Generation and it isn't supported.
Is anyone working on making it so that 6th Gen works any time soon?

LambdaCalculus:
Right now you cannot use Rockbox Utility to install Rockbox on an iPod Classic. Don't try installing builds for different generations, either; they simply will not work.

The install process for the iPod Classic is long and quite involved. If you insist on undertaking this process, you have to make sure to follow EVERY SINGLE STEP on this page:

Until the freemyipod guys come up with a better install process that we can incorporate into Rockbox Utility, this is how it is.

Also don't forget that the Ipod Classic is labelled as "unusable", and that's for a reason. Rockbox Utility needs to know the *exact* version of your Ipod, and if it doesn't know about that version you simply can't use it. That's how it is, and being more tolerant here is not an option because it can become dangerous.
