Is it possible...?
« on: August 20, 2009, 07:28:33 PM »
I installed the unofficial rockbox build for the Sansa Fuze...is there any way to remove/uninstall it?
Thanks

Yes. Reload your original unmodified firmware file. Then connect to your computer again and delete the .rockbox directory.

You can download the unmodified firmware file here: http://forums.sandisk.com/sansa/board/message?board.id=sansafuse&thread.id=23276 (Choose the one for All Regions, under "Sansa Fuze Firmware 01.02.26")

Then:

- Connect the Fuze to your computer in MSC mode (which can be set beforehand in the original Sansa fimware under "Settings" --> "System Settings" --> "USB Mode").
- Drop the firmware file you just downloaded onto the root of the player (i.e. not in any folder).
- Safely eject/unmount your Fuze and disconnect it from the computer. Let the firmware upgrade complete and restart the player.

This removes the Rockbox firmware. To get rid of the (now useless) .rockbox folder:

- Make sure your Fuze is MSC mode, as described above (since some firmware upgrades reset it to "Auto")
- Reconnect the Fuze to your computer
- Open the drive for the Fuze (found, in Windows, under "My Computer"), and delete the folder titled ".rockbox".

Rockbox is now completely gone.

that's whats in the folder.

You grabbed the wrong file from the SanDisk website; instead of the Sansa Firmware Updater file (which is an installation file for a separate Windows program -- and what you downloaded), you need the actual firmware file linked below it (after the words "All Regions -")...Here's a direct link to that file (as it is provided on the SanDisk site): http://mp3support.sandisk.com/firmware/fuze/fuze01.02.26.zip

What you ended up doing was deleting the ".rockbox" folder without actually running a firmware upgrade to remove Rockbox, so your player still thinks Rockbox is the default firmware (but can't find any Rockbox-related files). Try my instructions again using the fuze01.02.26.zip file above (make sure to unzip/extract it first!) and ignoring the "delete the folder titled '.rockbox'" part (since you've already done that).
