Starting to develop...
« on: August 20, 2009, 10:33:07 AM »
I have recompiled rockbox with a patch called lrcplayer for synchronised lyrics.
I wish to make changes to this patch but I thought I would ask for some help first.

What is the best way to set up an environment to develop for rockbox? I imagine it would take
quite a while if I had to recompile rockbox and install on my player to test a small patch. What can I do instead?

Any other tips would be appreciated.

For plugins its usually best to test on the simulator, which is basically a compile of rockbox for the PC with the same screen size and resolution as your device but no attempt to emulate actual hardware.  You can build it by running configure and choosing "simulator" instead of "normal" when prompted for the build type.
