There are or were several themes that have animated graphics, you could start here; http://www.rockbox.org/twiki/bin/view/Main/WpsIriverH100#DanceMarquee_v1_0 but I'm not sure that the WPS engine is able to update the images fast enough to make that spectrum analyser look any good (it wasn't when I tried animated play and Ffwd/Rwd images, but that was a long time ago...)

Never mind the WPS engine - the HP-1xx series players have incredibly slow display hardware, which even if the WPS engine itself were fast enough, would still make this look awful on the player.

We don't have any .gif support yet.

It really wouldn't make any sense since it would be less efficient and more complicated then BMP.

If you're implying that animating a GIF is somehow more computationally efficient then animating BMP frames, you are mistaken.  BMP frames do not have to be decoded, GIF frames do, and the process is memory intensive.  Simply  blitting BMPs to the frame buffer makes a lot more sense.
