Is Rockbox compatible with Dice Electronics BMW iPod integration kit?
« on: August 17, 2009, 01:11:55 PM »
Dice Electronics makes a product for integrating iPod's with a BMW.  The kit allows text to be displayed on the radio screen and the steering wheel controls can change tracks etc.

I would like to use RockBox firmware so I can play FLAC files.

Does anyone know if the RockBox firmware will work with the Dice system?  I called Dice and they have not tested it.

I'd be amazed if they've even heard of it :)

Tried it on mine (E46 with DICE connector) and it wouldn't work. Sometimes it would play, sometimes it wouldn't, sometimes I'd have to unplug it and fiddle about but I couldn't find the nack of getting it to work every time.

It must be do-able because I got it working a couple of times and the old Dension Ice>Link in my old car would work and feed through FF & RW commands seamlessly.

It's the one big frustration with these ipods and Rockbox - compatibility. Used to love Rockbox to bits, beign able to play flac, drag & drop through Windows but I've had to revert back to Apple's Fisher-Price my first MP3 player interface just because of the car kit.

For anyone who is interested, the DICE ipod integration for the E46 works with Rockbox 3.6!! Took a bit of fiddling with the dip switches on the DICE box, both ipod dips have to switched to ON

So long I've been using the standard interface, now I've got Rockbox back, wahooooo! No scrolling text on the radio any more but at least I can use Rockbox

Any more updates on this? I wanna get a DICE integration kit and from the looks of it, it works fine for the most part.

Anyone have any other experiences with this combo?
