help using sansapatcher
(1/1)
gergev:
Noob question, but I couldn't locate instructions, and don't want to brick my sansa.
I just installed rockbox on my new/refurbished C250 v1 and is connected in USB mode.
My OS is win xp sp3
I would like to use rockbox while charging with a wall charger, so downloaded the Sansa, H10 and M:robe 100 bootloaders from
http://rockbox.hostname.be/pp.zip
The "firmware.mi4" file is located in the c200 folder and the sansapatcher.exe file is located in its win32 folder
When I run sansapatcher.exe, I get the following
sansapatcher v0.8 with v6.0 bootloaders - (C) Dave Chapman 2006-2007

Enter i to install the Rockbox bootloader, u to uninstall
or c to cancel and do nothing (i/u/c) :
at this point is it ok to install it, entering "i" ?
Should I be copying over the firmware.mi4 file to the system folder on the sansa first, or does the installer just patch it for me?
ThaCrip:
yes just press the "I" (without the " ) and then hit enter and it will take a few seconds and it should complete perfectly fine and after that safely disconnect the device from the PC and test it out as it should boot into rockbox when powered on from the USB port etc.
but basically just extract the files out of the .zip file first then goto the win32 folder and run the sansapatcher.exe and press the I button on keyboard and hit enter and it will install and after it's done your good to go ;)
p.s. if by some chance it semi bricks your player.... odds are you can recover your device using it's 'recovery mode'. but my guess is you will be fine ;)

Thanks for your help. My C250 now runs rockbox while charging on ac/usb adapter.
I have one other question.
Do you think there is a problem leaving the player plugged in all the time to the ac/usb adapter? I see the little charging icon, but the unit doesn't seem to get warm.
ThaCrip:
well i think it would be safe since after a while the charging will stop.
you can basically tell by looking at the battery percent meter as it will say 'charging' there if it's charging and once it stops it will go back to a percent.
also i believe if your battery is almost fullish the battery won't get to warm.
p.s. and im 'guessing' the charging part of Rockbox must detect how low the battery is somehow and that probably controls how much power it pumped into the battery so if it's almost full it's probably a trickle type charge where as if it's half emtpy it will probably go full blast on the power to the battery which will make it warm etc. (IM JUST GUESSING ON THIS PART... so don't take this as fact or anything)
