mpegplayer slower than it used to be

I have this problem on the x5l, updating after +/- 8 months or so (from r18000+):
the elephants dream test video for example stutters and has strange sound (smooth, i mean continuous, but
badly  distorted). Other videos (encoded to play smoothly) have the same problem.

Have you done a framerate comparison between the old build and the current build you're running?

fip:
not yet - the difference is not really subtle: the old version played very well,  the new version is not
smooth at all.

on second thought: I think it may go too fast: sound is too fast (but sound not high pitched) and video is either skipping a lot to keep up (in case of frameskip) or lagging the sound (desyncing, if frameskip is off)
(framerate is around 20 for new and old version)

update2:
reverting: http://www.rockbox.org/tracker/task/10504 fixes it...I am submitting a bug report...

Go ahead and update your build again.  I reverted FS#10504 and this should fix your problem.

BTW, thanks for the bug report.  It was very specific and useful.
