MIPS compiler and Windows
« on: August 10, 2009, 10:10:51 PM »
I am trying to build rockbox for an ONDA VX747 on WinXP using Cygwin, but it cannot find the correct compiler needed. It says 'bin/sh: mipsel-elf-gcc: command not found' . I reran the setup for cygwin to see if I could locate the correct file, but it does not appear to be on any of the servers I looked on.
Could someone please kindly show me where I can find the correct file, and explain how to install it manually. Thanks in advance.

I don't think theres a cygwin package for mipsel.  Try running rockboxdev.sh and building it yourself, the wiki says it should work on cygwin too.

I think the linux/cygwin guide on the wiki explains how to build if you're not clear on that.

Thanks, that has done the trick, I just have to alter the path and try it again now.

edit:
Well I managed to edit the path and the autoconf.h as directed in the wiki page for the VX747. However now it brings up a problem with the rockbox logo very early in the build process . The message says : make: *** No rule to make target '/rockbox/build/apps/bitmaps/native/rockbox/buildlogo.320x98x16.o, needed by '/rockbox/build/bootloader.elf' . Stop.

Unfortunately I am not knowledgeable enough to correct this problem alone, does anyone know what to do here? Alternatively is anybody else able to compile a bootloader build for this target, could they contact me and we can arrange for them to email the necessary files from a recent build. Thanks to anyone who might help.

Could you try doing 'make veryclean' and redo make?

Thanks, I have now tried that, but it still stops on the same problem. I'm not too worried right now, as someone has emailed me a recent bootloader build.
