iRiver H10 20gb audio level from multi pin connector doesnt adjust with rockbox
TDIPower:
I have been floating around the mysticriver over the years (as TDIPower) and did a lot on the pin outs for the bottom connector when the H10 first came out. Worked out the connections audio in/out etc. I KNOW it's not USB audio... I read the threads on here going back over the years about that idea.
To the point.
I have only just added Rockbox to my H10 as I’m heading off on a 3000km trip on the motorbike. I played around with Rockbox and like it (found a playlist workaround that lets me use mine from WMP)
This was until I had finished producing the communications system for the motorbike. I hooked up the H10 bottom connector and the audio level was far too loud, I tried to turn it down and it wouldn't, something that it would do under the original software.
Is this a feature that is selectable, does Rockbox NOT allow you to adjust the line out level on the bottom connector and am I doomed to use the original software for my trip. Or is this something I can enable through the menu system that I have missed??
I leave on Wednesday 12th July!!!!
Someone please help!!!!!!!!!
I will say as a sound engineer I was always annoyed about the Lineout level adjusting with the volume control, line out is line out and should be at line out level. BUT now I want it to adjust with the volume control.
Many thanks… I hope you can help in the next 36hrs!!!
To clarify.
iRiver H10 20gb.
I want to be able to adjust the audio level on the line out pins in the multi connector like the original software did.
Cheers Pete

Line level is by definition not adjustable. If the OF allowed it, that is technically incorrect. If you want to adjust the volume, use the headphone out.

Cheers but..
As I said being a sound engineer the the fact that the original software did allow it used to be frustrating.
HOWEVER I know it is possible to be adjustable and wondered if this was an option within rockbox (the default being the sensible fixed level) and if not a current option what would be involved in changing this.
It did not occur to me that Rockbox would disable a feature. I have spent over several weeks designing and making a comunications system to do what I want on the bike only to find the feature disabled now.
I do not have the time to redesigning my system or making adjustments to it. I did all my original testing with the original software, Rockbox only just added in the last week. I only got to the point of being able to test the full system on the bike yesterday.

Perhaps I was unclear. I do not think there is any such option in rockbox since it would not make much sense.
TDIPower:
It's a long time ago since i did any for of programming and that was mostly 10 Print "hello"; 20 goto 10 so however Rockbox is written hats of to you folks that do it.
Is it written, adjusted altered by lots of people who try something others think its a good/bad idea and then it gets released into he world??
I see you are a Developer, by your tag. Would you have it in your power to find out how much work it would be to add the feature to track the volume control assigned to the headphone port and map it onto the line out port as well?
I know you can write setup files for ‘car mode’ etc with different audio levels EQ’s etc. To include the option for Lineout tracking the volume to be another line in one of those files would solve my problems.
Im sorry if I come across a bit frustrated... I am, I’ve put so much effort into all this to work with the original software, then tried rockbox, got it all nicely setup, sorted out playlists think its a much better OS but then to have it snatched away by this.
I have found that adjustments made to the EQ do track onto the sound outputted from the line out port.
The major problem is the line output level on higher level tracks combined with EQ settings can overload the inputs on the Communications. I had considered a simple fix of just reducing the input gain on the unit I have BUT then the quieter tracks become a problem (It all comes back to the standardisation of audio levels being pushed with highly compressed audio meaning the actual and perceived levels are different), I might want to listen to an audio book then switch to music… the levels are a massive 20-30db different. I need to be able to alter the playback level from the H10 mounted on the bars, using the headphone socket would be a step back in the whole design, as it was to just use the one connector to do all the jobs. Also there is no room to use the headphone port in the mounting unit I produced.
I really appreciate any help you can give on sorting this out. Now I have found Rockbox I really don’t want to go back to the iriver system.
Cheers Pete
