ipod 4G Grayscale Backlight Shortcut
« on: August 08, 2009, 12:16:06 PM »
On iPod 4G Grayscale , with the original firmware , it was possible to manually turn the backlight on and off by holding down the "menu button" for a couple of seconds , of which I was taking a lot of advantage.
I couldn't manage to do the same thing with Rockbox.
Is there a method , shortcut key or plug-in to turn the backlight on and off ? Any experiences ?
Thanks,
Demir

Enable "First Keypress Enables Backlight Only" and any button will turn it on, though only for the amount of time set as your backlight timeout.  Do you have a reason to want the backlight to be on even when you aren't pressing buttons?  There's a "lamp" plugin if you just need a light source.

The reason is that I don't need the light to be turned on every time when I am adjusting the volume level or fast forwarding , rewinding or skipping to the next song. I need the light when I get into the main menu. It would be nice if there was a specific key for turning on and off the backlight instead of every key action.
I was just curious about if it was available , and I'll get used to the way it works currently.
And I may suggest this function to be added in the future releases of Rockbox , if possible.

Thanks,
Demir

P.S. "Backlight on Hold" also doesn't do the job 'cause I can't navigate when the hold switch is on. And as soon as I turn the hold switch off , the backlight is cut off again.
